DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY

ABOUT US:

The History Department was established in June 1968 and initially offered as a minor subject alongside History as the major subject until the academic year 1991-92. Over time, Political Science gained equal importance and is now taught alongside Political science, Economics, and Sociology.

The department has evolved with significant academic reforms:

  • The semester system was introduced by Karnataka University, Dharwad in 2005.
  • From 2010-11, the college became affiliated with Rani Channamma University, Belagavi.
  • In 2020-21, the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS) was implemented for B.A. first-semester students under Rani Channamma University.
  • From 2021-22, the National Education Policy (NEP) was introduced for B.A. first-semester students, bringing a new academic framework to enhance learning outcomes.

Our department remains committed to academic excellence, critical thinking, and Historical sites awareness, equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to engage meaningfully in society.

MISSION:

“Arrange sensitization programs to create awareness in organizing tours to historical sites and conducting extension activities to develop global skill among learners”

OBJECTIVES:

  • The study of history serves as a bridge between the past, present and future.
  • Study of history depends our understadining of the potentialities and limitations of the present.
  • It gives us chronological and systematic accounts of the past.
  • History is to again insights into the past, understand the evaluation of societies, learn from past success and failures, and develop a border perspective on current events.
  • Learn about the post war developments of social, political, economic and cultural scenarios of India.

  • To create Historical sense among the students
  • To cultivate research aptitude through comparative study of National, local & Global history
  • Students will be understanding the development of Early Empires.
  • To understand our heritage through cultural aspects of early India.
  • To enhance their personality build their confidence in cracking competitive exams
  • To signify the importance of oral history and its role in Nation building
  • To make them understand the nature and scope of history
  • To make them understand the depth of subject of history from micro to macro
  • To make them understand world history and its impact on India
  • To spread awareness about constitution of modern India and Indian Heritage Legislations.
