DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY

ABOUT US: 

Sociology is a social science that focuses on society, human social behavior, patterns of social relationships, social interaction, and aspects of culture associated with everyday life. It uses various methods of empirical investigation and critical analysis to develop a body of knowledge about social order and social change. The department of Sociology was started in June 1968 in this College. It was taught as a minor subject in the initial years and then it was taught as the optional subject in different combinations. In the beginning years sociology was taught has a major subject. It was being taught as optional subject from June 1992 under the modified curriculum of KU Dharwad and it was being taught as optional subject under modified curriculum of semester system from June 2005. From 2010 on words it is affiliated to RCU Belagavi. Sociology is compulsory subjects in all semesters in BA students have been evincing interest in understanding importance topics of Sociology.

  • Developments: It helps to understand the nature of social development, the views of ancient Indian thinkers on Dharma and Institutions, he Social Ethics of thinkers of different age, etc.
  • Methodology: It helps to understand the basic theories of Western Sociological Thought, theories of Social Evolution, methodology of Social Sciences.
  • Sociological Aspects: Its helps gain the knowledge about Philosophical Bases of Indian Society, awareness of changes in Indian society and Indian Stratification,
  • Problem Analysis:  It helps to understand the nature of Social Problems, Nature of Vulnerable Problems of Life and nature & Causes of Changing Crimes in India.
